Reintroduced Native Populus nigra in Restored Floodplain Reduces Spread of Exotic Poplar Species

چکیده

Exotic Populus taxa pose a threat to the success of riparian forest restoration in floodplain areas. We evaluated impact exotic on softwood development along river Common Meuse after introducing native nigra and re-establishment natural dynamics. sampled 154 poplar seedlings that spontaneously colonized restored habitat assessed their taxonomy based diagnostic chloroplast nuclear microsatellite markers. Furthermore, by using paternity analysis 72 resulting from six open pollinated P. females, we investigated hybridization between frequently planted cultivated poplars . The majority gravel banks analyzed where identified as ; only 2% exhibited genes species. Similarly, progenies were For three (4%), was assigned cultivar × canadensis Almost two decades reintroducing , constitution seed pollen pools changed study area favor reproduction species at expense This indicates that, although significant gene flow form is observed European floodplains, programs can vigorously outcompete flows strongly reduce development.

Isotopic niches of sympatric native and exotic fish species in a Neotropical floodplain.

This study investigated the isotopic niches of two fish species, one exotic and one native. It was hypothesized that these species would show little or no isotopic niche overlap. This hypothesis was tested with the isotopic niche concept and the trophic Layman's metrics. A considerable isotopic niche overlap was observed between the species, mainly for the exotic that showed the greater percent...

The optimum level of nano-wollastonite consumption as fire-retardant in poplar wood (Populus nigra)

Fire-retarding properties of wollastonite nanofibers in poplar wood (Populus nigra) were studied here. Some physical properties such as water absorption, volumetric swelling and anti-swelling efficiency (ASE) were also measured. Specimens were prepared according to the ISO 11925 specifications for the fire-retarding properties and according to the ASTM D4446 -2002 specifications for th...

Hydrogen Peroxide Response in Leaves of Poplar (Populus simonii × Populus nigra) Revealed from Physiological and Proteomic Analyses

Hydrogen peroxide (H₂O₂) is one of the most abundant reactive oxygen species (ROS), which plays dual roles as a toxic byproduct of cell metabolism and a regulatory signal molecule in plant development and stress response. Populus simonii × Populus nigra is an important cultivated forest species with resistance to cold, drought, insect and disease, and also a key model plant for forest genetic e...

Morphological study of the leaves of two European black poplar (Populus nigra L.) populations in Slovenia

Background and Purpose: Conservation efforts across Europe and a substantial lack of information regarding the present status of black poplar (Populus nigra L.) in Slovenia led us to conduct this research. The objectives were to determine the presence of preserved native black poplar in Slovenia, to evaluate the variation within and between two selected populations, and to evaluate the conditio...
